We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have successfully received planning permission to create our very own Surf School Wales hub on Aberavon beach.
After a decade of handing out surfboards and wetsuits from the back of our van, our new Surf Club hub will provide a safe, welcoming, encouraging and motivational space for those who visit us as well secure and efficient storage solutions.
Due to the growing popularity of surfing, and the fact that it’s one of the few sports that can safely be carried out with the ongoing threat of Covid-19, last summer we had to turn away young people to our popular surf club due to lack of capacity. This meant us going firmly against our ethos of giving everyone equal opportunity to experience the benefits of the sport - and this is when the dream of the Surf School Hub was ignited some 9 months ago.
The pandemic has had a detrimental impact on mental health for many people of all ages and the wellbeing benefits of water and surfing are now more important than ever.
The Surf School Wales Hub will be a converted container project situated in our usual spot between Remos and Aberavon Surf Life Saving Club it will provide:
Secure storage of boards, wetsuits, and surf equipment.
Secure storage of members belongings during surf sessions.
Drying room for wetsuits.
Space for booking/administrative activities.
Outdoor decking to the front.

First established in 2010 with the support of a Sport Wales Grant, we are very grateful to Sport Wales who are once again playing a key part in making this dream a reality. We will be self funding a lot of the project and have also kindly received a grant from Tata Steel to help us.
Thanks to Sport Wales we will also be getting a new collection of junior winter kit which will allow our kids surf clubs to run outside of our regular summer months. This will allow the young people within our community to continue to experience the benefits of surfing for longer.
We are a family run, community interest company who are proud to provide our services exclusively on Aberavon beach to the benefit of the local community. We aim to promote long term physical and mental wellbeing and tackle key social issues through the benefits of surfing.
